The Cook |

The most indispensable member of the crew was
the cook, and the chuck wagon was the center of activity. Smith devoted
considerable attention to portraying the cook preparing the meals, followed
by the enthusiastic arrival of the men, who were anxious to enjoy their
reward for a job well done.
