As a young artist, Eliot Porter photographed subjects near his homes in the northeastern United States. Over time, he traveled farther away from home and began photographing new places with different terrain, animals, and cultures.  

Porter selected and photographed subjects in each place to express his appreciation for natural beauty. He gathered his photographs into books that helped raise awareness of the value of preserving these places.
