In 1960 Porter became involved with the Sierra Club, an organization that was becoming increasingly concerned with saving the environment. Porter collaborated with the club to create a large-format book titled “In Wildness Is the Preservation of the World.” The commercial success of the book led to others in which Porter created loving studies of the places he photographed. We will look closely at one of these book projects.
