Finding His Subjects

Porter explored the natural world around him and became known for making pleasing photographs of nature. To accomplish his goals, he became expert at finding interesting details, such as these luna moths that blend in with their surroundings (look closely and you will see two moths in this image). He loved the outdoors and would spend hours exploring.
  • Where would you go to find nature in your community?
  • How would you describe nature in your community through close-up photographs?
  • Look at the range of greens Porter captures in this photograph. What other colors do you see?

Porter's attention to details of nature, as seen in this image, helped raise awareness and build support for saving natural places.
