General Notes Richard Misrach has been a freelance photographer in California since 1971 when he received his B.A. in psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. Misrach is a self-taught photographer; his work has included images documenting street life in Berkeley and photographs of the desert at dusk. Misrach received three National Endowment for the Arts grants (1973, 1977, 1984), a Guggenheim Fellowship (1978), a Prize of the Bell Corporation (1978), and a Ferguson Prize from the Friends of Photography (1976). He received the International Center for Photography award for outstanding publication for 1987 for his book Desert Cantos. He has taught at the Associated Students of the University of California Studio and has given workshops for the San Francisco Art Institute, the University of Illinois at Carbondale, the Friends of Photography, and the Center for Creative Photography.
