People on the Move

Educator Videoconference

Throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries a variety of factors have caused a steady stream of people to immigrate to the United States and migrate across the country. Discover the reasons why and how artists have integrated American immigration and migration into their artworks. Topics include artists who immigrated to the United States, westward expansion, and industrialization. This broadcast utilizes the Carter’s permanent collection of paintings, photographs, and works on paper, as well as nineteenth-century immigrant guides. This program is most appropriate for art and social studies educators of all grade levels, although others may benefit.
