Coming to America: Nineteenth- and Early Twentieth-Century Immigration
Educator workshop
$12 for museum members and $15 for nonmembers
Throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth century a variety of factors caused a steady stream of people to immigrate to the United States and migrate across the country. Discover the reasons why and how artists have integrated American immigration and migration into their artworks. Topics include artists who immigrated to the United States, westward expansion, and industrialization. This workshop utilizes the Carter’s permanent collection of paintings, photographs, and works on paper, as well as nineteenth-century immigrant guides. This program is most appropriate for art and social studies educators of all grade levels, although others may benefit. Refreshments provided from 4:30 to 5 p.m.
