Sustainer and Patron Members are cordially invited to a Special Program and Reception: Johnson and Johnson: A New York Architect and Cowtown Collector Collaborate

Discover the fascinating history of the collaboration between architect Philip Johnson and his patron Ruth Carter Johnson (later Stevenson) as they designed the Amon Carter Museum of American Art. Through photographs and artifacts, the museum's docents and archivist will explore the museum as a monument to the city of Fort Worth and Amon Carter who was one of its greatest promoters.

Wild Spaces, Open Seasons: Hunting and Fishing in American Art

Meet at the special exhibition entrance for a guided tour of Wild Spaces, Open Seasons: Hunting and Fishing in American Art. This is the first major exhibition to explore the multifaceted meanings of such outdoor subjects in both painting and sculpture from the early nineteenth century to World War II. This exhibition encompasses a wide variety of portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and genre scenes, including iconic works by Thomas Cole, Thomas Eakins, Winslow Homer, and Augustus Saint-Gaudens, as well as key pictures by specialists in the category such as Charles Deas, Alfred Jacob Miller, William T. Ranney, and Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait. No reservations required.

Trivia Night

Trivia competition inspired by the museum’s collection

Put on your thinking cap for a casual evening of trivia inspired by the Amon Carter’s collection. Bring a group (up to six people per team) or come alone, and enjoy snacks, drinks, and prizes during this friendly competition. Questions cover a wide range of topics—no art history degree required!

Participants in this program must be at least 18 years of age.

Reservations are required. Registration for this program opens October 1.

Dornith Doherty: Archiving Eden

Free teacher workshop

For this botanically inspired workshop, Amon Carter educators have teamed up with contemporary photographer and Distinguished Research Professor at the University of North Texas, Dornith Doherty and educators from the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) to demonstrate how science and art are integrated! Teachers will have the unique opportunity to listen to Doherty speak about her Archiving Eden project at the Amon Carter, and then journey to BRIT to tour the herbarium and engage in sensational seed investigations.

Participants will receive three CPE hours in Fine Arts: Art—All Levels, Science: Physical Sciences—All Levels, and Instructional Techniques—All Levels.

Art, gifted and talented, and science teachers from classroom and homeschool settings, as well as preservice teachers, are encouraged to attend, although others may benefit and are welcome to register.

Space is limited; preregistration is required. Cancellations must be received forty-eight hours in advance of the program or a $25 fee will be charged; program materials will be mailed to absent teachers.

Artist Talk: Dornith Doherty

Artist lecture and book signing

North Texas photographer Dornith Doherty has traveled the globe to construct a visual meditation on the planet’s botanical diversity by showcasing the work of international seed banks in the exhibition Dornith Doherty: Archiving Eden. During this lecture, Doherty will discuss her process, influence, and experiences when taking photographs for this project.

Doherty will be available to sign copies of her accompanying publication, Archiving Eden following the lecture. The book is available for purchase in the Museum Store.
