Multitude, Solitude: The Photographs of Dave Heath

Explore the current special exhibition

Meet at the special exhibition entrance for a guided of Dave Heath’s powerful photographs of loss and hope conjure feelings of alienation and a desire for human connection. Multitude, Solitude highlights the photographer’s black-and-white pictures of the 1950s and 1960s, an intense period of self-discovery and innovation for the artist. During these pivotal years, Heath developed groundbreaking approaches to narrative and image sequence, producing exquisite individual prints; handmade book maquettes; his poetic masterwork, A Dialogue with Solitude; and multimedia slide presentations. His sensitive explorations of loss, pain, love and hope reveal Heath to be one of the most original photographers of those decades.

Members on the Road: Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

Members on the Road

August 8–10, 2018

Join your friends from the Amon Carter as we travel to Bentonville, Arkansas, to see the exhibition The Beyond: Georgia O’Keeffe and Contemporary Art at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Building on Crystal Bridge’s own collection of significant works by Georgia O’Keeffe, the museum has brought together more than three dozen of the artist’s most important works as the centerpiece of this unique exhibition including the Amon Carter’s Patio Door and Series 1—No. 1. The trip includes a private guided tour of the museum’s superb collection of American art and an opportunity to enjoy the grounds and outdoor trails. On the way back to Fort Worth we will visit the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Tour price is $1,099 per person based on double occupancy (single supplement is $200). This fee includes accommodation based on double occupancy, portage, breakfast daily, three lunches, and one dinner; transportation by deluxe motor coach; gratuities for guides and bus drivers; all sightseeing and admission charges; and service charges and taxes.

Sharing the Past Through Art

Program for people with all stages of Alzheimer's

Designed for adults with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, participants discuss artists, exhibitions, and themes and use artworks to connect to past experiences.

This program is offered on the second Thursday of every month.

There is a designated barrier-free entrance near accessible parking for vehicles displaying the appropriate disability permits on Lancaster Avenue (the museum’s south side).

Are you looking for new and innovative ways to excite and engage students in out-of-school programing? The Amon Carter invites you to attend a workshop designed for organizations serving youth, grades pre-K–8.

During these workshops:

• gain strategies for stimulating creativity and fostering critical thinking;
• focus on age-appropriate approaches to looking at and teaching from art;
• experience gallery activities and discussions;
• learn about educator and student programs available; and
• receive resources and take-aways related to the museum’s collection.

Space is limited. Registration is required.

Sensory Saturdays

Program for families with children on the autism spectrum

This is a free program for families with children who are 5 to 12 years old and on the autism spectrum. Families will have time to explore artworks in the galleries and get creative during a hands-on, art-making experience!

While the needs of individuals with autism are the focus of this program, it is also intended to be fun for parents, siblings (of all ages), and other relatives!

This program is offered on the second Saturday of every month. Reservations are required. Registration for this program opens August 1.

Trivia competition inspired by the museum’s collection

Put on your thinking cap for a casual evening of trivia inspired by the Amon Carter’s collection. Bring a group (up to six people per team) or come alone, and enjoy snacks, drinks, and prizes during this friendly competition. Questions cover a wide range of topics—no art history degree required!

Participants in this program must be at least 18 years of age.

Itty-Bitty Art: Yoga

Program for families with infants 0–11 months

Bring your baby (up to 11 months) to the Amon Carter for an art-filled experience! Engage with yoga instructor Miranda Davis as she leads an age-appropriate yoga session inspired by the museum’s collection.

Using artwork as inspiration, you will experience a unique, playful, intimate, and joyful yoga session. Enjoy deep breathing, simple yoga movements and postures, and plenty of time to relax and bond with your baby.

Participants do not need to have any prior yoga experience to participate in this class.

Please wear comfortable clothing and a baby carrier (front carrying) if you have one. Yoga mats and blocks will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Reservation are required. Registration for this program opens August 1.

Itty-Bitty Art: Movement

Program for families with toddlers 12–24 months

Bring your young toddler (12 to 24 months) to the Amon Carter for an art-filled experience! Engage with Taleisha Jones, an instructor at The Little Gym with a background in psychology and child development, as she leads an age-appropriate session that includes movement activities inspired by the museum’s collection.

This program’s curriculum is designed to help build the skills needed as children become mobile. It will focus on strengthening your child’s core to help with balance and stabilization and promoting inner ear development. While your child discovers new colors, movements, and sounds with fascination and joy, you’ll discover new smile muscles you never knew you had!

Children should be dressed in comfortable clothing (dresses are not ideal) for this program. Also, please bring a burp cloth or a blanket.

Itty-Bitty Art: Little Artists

Program for families with toddlers 12–24 months

Bring your young toddler (ages 12–24 months) to the Amon Carter for an art-filled experience! Engage with Lindsay Koss, early childhood teacher, as she leads an art-making session inspired by the museum’s collection.

Artistic exploration can begin with the tiniest of hands. The introduction of artistic mediums allows toddlers to discover action, colors, textures, and to express themselves. Crayons, foam sheets, markers, paper, stamps, texture boards and watercolors are a few toddler friendly supplies that stimulate creativity while developing fine motor skills and encourages cognitive development. Making art combines a sensory and emotional experience that fosters a passion for creative thinking and imagination!

Attendees may get messy—please dress accordingly!
