Yoga in the Galleries

Yoga Session for Adults in the Main Gallery

Join Miranda Davis, owner and instructor at PerfectFit Yoga, as she leads a yoga session inspired by the exhibition A New American Sculpture, 1914–1945: Lachaise, Laurent, Nadelman, and Zorach. This class will focus on motifs found throughout the exhibition, including beauty, grace, and fluidity and will encourage the exploration of movement in a way that embodies power and freedom. The session will use a Vinyasa style of yoga encompassing breath work, poses for strength and stamina, as well as flexibility and meditative practices.

All levels of practice are welcome.

Please bring a mat and wear proper clothing for movement.

Reservations are required. Registration for this program opens March 1.

Close Encounters

Program for people with low or no vision

Designed for people of all ages with low or no vision and their guests, participants utilize tactile tools and conversation to connect with artworks in the museum’s collection.

Reservations are required. Registration for this program opens March 1. Call 817.989.5013 or email education@cartermuseum.org to reserve your place and receive helpful instructions and parking information.

Sharing the Past Through Art

Program for people with all stages of Alzheimer’s

Designed for adults with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, participants discuss artists, exhibitions, and themes and use artworks to connect to past experiences.

This program is offered on the second Thursday of every month.

There is a designated barrier-free entrance near accessible parking for vehicles displaying the appropriate disability permits on Lancaster Avenue (the museum’s south side).

For students 5–18 years

FREE

Conservation, preservation, and appreciation are the three key principles in this environmentally minded museum experience. Students will explore contemporary artist Jan Staller who uses found objects and material culture to convey an artistic message of consumerism. Gallery teachers will provide artistic ideas to celebrate Earth Day and appreciate everyday objects in a whole new way.

Students will be divided into groups by age. Parents may drop off or stay with their students for this tour.

The Amon Carter will only accept registrations from primary caregivers. Registration for this program opens March 15.

Sensory Saturdays

Program for families with children on the autism spectrum

This is a free program for families with children who are 5 to 12 years old and on the autism spectrum. Families will have time to explore artworks in the galleries and get creative during a hands-on, art-making experience!

While the needs of individuals with autism are the focus of this program, it is also intended to be fun for parents, siblings (of all ages), and other relatives!

This program is offered on the second Saturday of every month. Reservations are required. Registration for this program opens April 1.

Itty-Bitty Art: Play

Program for families with infants 0–11 months

Bring your baby (up to 11 months) to the Amon Carter for an art-filled experience! Engage with Audrey Rowland, early childhood specialist, as she leads an age-appropriate play session inspired by the museum’s collection.

In this session, examine what types of play infants enjoy, what types of materials extend play and curiosity, and the impact of play on brain development. You will also explore materials that are more valuable to play with than the typical toys.
