Are you looking for new and innovative ways to excite and engage students in out-of-school programing? The Amon Carter invites you to attend a workshop designed for organizations serving youth, grades pre-K–8.

During these workshops:

• gain strategies for stimulating creativity and fostering critical thinking;
• focus on age-appropriate approaches to looking at and teaching from art;
• experience gallery activities and discussions;
• learn about educator and student programs available; and
• receive resources and take-aways related to the museum’s collection.

Space is limited. Registration is required.

Sensory Saturdays

Program for families with children on the autism spectrum

This is a free program for families with children who are 5 to 12 years old and on the autism spectrum. Families will have time to explore artworks in the galleries and get creative during a hands-on, art-making experience!

While the needs of individuals with autism are the focus of this program, it is also intended to be fun for parents, siblings (of all ages), and other relatives!

This program is offered on the second Saturday of every month.

Registration for this program opens June 1.

Storytime: Hot and Cold

Stories and artmaking for families with children 8 and under

Storytime is upside down and inside out at the Amon Carter as we explore opposites this summer! This week, visitors will focus on all things hot and cold when they bring their family to hear stories, look at artworks, and create their own works of art! Snacks will be provided.

During each Storytime, adults can register their participating children to win that week’s featured books. A drawing will be held after each program; those chosen will be contacted via phone or email.

Storytime is held every Wednesday, June 6 through July 25 (except on July 4), from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

This program is best for families with children ages eight and under and their adult companions. If you work for a summer school or day care, we offer a customized experience for your students on a different day. Please call 817.989.5036 or email schooltours@cartermuseum.org for more information.

The museum is unable to validate paid parking at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. Parking information.

Close Encounters

Program for people with low or no vision

Designed for people of all ages with low or no vision and their guests, participants utilize tactile tools and conversation to connect with artworks in the museum’s collection.

Reservations are required. Registration for this program opens May 1. Call 817.989.5013 or email education@cartermuseum.org to reserve your place and receive helpful instructions and parking information.

There is a designated barrier-free entrance near accessible parking for vehicles displaying the appropriate disability permits on Lancaster Avenue (the museum’s south side).

Book SmART: Heart to Heart: New Poems Inspired by Twentieth-Century American Art

Free teacher workshop

FREE

Teachers will use the Amon Carter’s collection to discover innovative ways to incorporate both poetry and original works of American art into their curriculum. Look at and discuss artworks from a variety of media, learn visual literacy strategies, and explore ways to infuse language arts curriculum with images that make poetry units come to life.

Participants will receive two CPE hours in: English/Language Arts: All Levels, Fine Arts—Art: All Levels, and Instructional Techniques: All Levels

Elementary and middle school librarians and art, gifted and talented, language arts, and reading teachers from classroom and homeschool settings, as well as preservice teachers, are encouraged to attend, although others may benefit and are welcome to register.

This workshop is limited to twenty-five participants; preregistration is required. All participants will receive a copy of Heart to Heart: New Poems Inspired by Twentieth-Century American Art.
