Homeschool Book Club for Upper-Elementary and Middle-School Students

The Amon Carter provides unique and educational museum experiences for Pre-K through twelfth-grade students. A team of professional Gallery Teachers facilitates tours and utilizes an inquiry-based approach to allow students to make personal and meaningful connections with the museum’s collection and special exhibitions. (Recommended for students ages 11–15)

Ansel Adams: America’s Photographer by Beverly Gherman

Students will learn about renowned artist-photographer Ansel Adams by reading his biography for young adults, Ansel Adams: America’s Photographer by Beverly Gherman. During the museum visit students will look at photographs from the exhibition Ansel Adams: Eloquent Light and analyze paintings by artists in the Amon Carter Museum’s collection who were also inspired by the American landscape. Students will create their own landscape-inspired work of art.

Space is limited, and preregistration and prepayment are required for registration to be complete: $20 for children of members and $25 for children of nonmembers. The program fee includes a copy of the book, which can be mailed to participants or picked up at the museum prior to the program. Call or e-mail for multiple family member discounts. Students will be divided into groups by age. Parents are encouraged to drop their students off at the museum for this program as there is no parental instruction.
