Homeschool Workshop (Recommended for students ages 6–18)
During the 1920s–50s, artists from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, the United States, and Venezuela produced works of art in a style called Geometric Abstraction. During this dialogue-based program students will look at artworks featured in the exhibition Constructive Spirit: Abstract Art in South and North America, 1920s–50s and sculptures from the Amon Carter Museum’s collection to learn more about this unique style and make cross-cultural connections using abstract art of the Americas. Students will end the workshop by creating their own work of art inspired by artists working in the style of Geometric Abstraction. Homeschool educators are encouraged to register for the parents’ portion of the workshop, which takes place at the museum while students are participating in their program. During the parents’ portion, participants will work with Carter educators to discover innovative ways to incorporate abstract art into their home curriculum.
Space is limited, and preregistration and prepayment are required for registration to be complete: $7 for children of members, $10 for children of nonmembers. Homeschool educators can purchase instructional materials related to the workshop, including digital images, for $10. Students must be six years old or older to attend the program, and they will be divided into groups by age. Adults will be separated from children but are welcome to bring infants or toddlers with them to the parents’ training.
