Museum day trip to a surprise destination

Museum Mystery Tour

You won't know where we are going until we arrive at our destination! This is your chance be the sort of freewheeling traveler who rolls into a new place with no itinerary and nothing to guide you but your instincts. We do promise a day of fun with a house museum, a museum of the West, a museum of classic items, and several other surprises along the way.

REMEMBER: Half the fun is not knowing what will happen next.

Fee: $135 per person includes transportation, lunch, all fees and gratuities.
This trip is not ADA accessible.

Creep into the Library and Archives at the Amon Carter to view illustrated texts, including Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein and works by Edgar Allan Poe. Uncover chilling nineteenth-century cultural norms while lurking though spirit photographs, “sleeping beauties,” and eerie artifacts while hearing stories from Amon Carter Archivist and historian Jon Frembling.

Homeschool Tour: Archiving Eden

For students 5–18 years

In the exhibition Dornith Doherty: Archiving Eden, University of North Texas photography professor Dornith Doherty artfully publicizes the subject of seed vaults and the activities of their research scientists. Gallery teachers will take students on a botanical journey through the museum that explores the naturalist tradition in American art and reveal artists’ penchant for documenting and preserving the natural resources around them.

This tour is limited to thirty students; preregistration is required. For more information or to register, call 817.989.5013 or email education@cartermuseum.org.

Students will be divided into groups by age. Parents may drop off or stay with their students for this tour.

Wild Spaces, Open Seasons: Hunting and Fishing in American Art

Explore the current special exhibition

Meet at the special exhibition entrance for a guided tour of Wild Spaces, Open Seasons: Hunting and Fishing in American Art. This is the first major exhibition to explore the multifaceted meanings of such outdoor subjects in both painting and sculpture from the early nineteenth century to World War II. This exhibition encompasses a wide variety of portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and genre scenes, including iconic works by Thomas Cole, Thomas Eakins, Winslow Homer, and Augustus Saint-Gaudens, as well as key pictures by specialists in the category such as Charles Deas, Alfred Jacob Miller, William T. Ranney, and Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait. No reservations required.
