Resolve to Choose More Art
Summarizing his thoughts on New Year’s Day, Mark Twain cleverly penned, “Now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual.”
It’s that time of year when we all resolve to do better…eat healthier, exercise more, learn a new skill. In addition to your typical list, how about adding a new one—spending more time with art at the Carter? By visiting the Carter, you can accomplish many additional goals that are probably also on your list, such as spending more time with friends and family and learning more about the world around you. Plus, visiting the Carter will help you stick to that budget you may have resolved to make, since it’s free to visit the museum and attend our public programs.
One of the best ways to keep your resolutions is to begin them right away, and we offer several opportunities for you to do just that. If you haven’t yet experienced the photographs of Frank Gohlke (or you want to see them again), you have until January 6. Three public programs await addition to your January schedule, including the Arty Animals Target Family Fun Day on January 13, a lecture on Timothy H. O’Sullivan’s photographs on the 19th, and a gallery talk on a recent acquisition of sculpture on the 24th.
And remember, practice makes perfect, so we’ll look for you at the Carter all year long. Come next New Year’s you’ll have shown Mark Twain that some resolutions can be kept…even if you’ll still have that exercise thing to work on.
