American Art Lends a Helping Hand

Andy Warhol once wrote, “I never met a pet I didn’t like,” and I can agree wholeheartedly. That’s why I love this new Warhol exhibition, Canis Major: Warhol’s Dogs and Cats (and other party animals) at the Andy Warhol Museum. Not only does it celebrate Warhol’s Pop Art depictions of the important animals in his life, but it also helps dogs and cats in the Pittsburgh area.

During the exhibition, the Andy Warhol Museum will collaborate with Animal Friends, a Pittsburgh no-kill animal shelter, on an adoption drive. Shelter animals will have their portraits painted in Warhol style, and the paintings will hang during the exhibition and then be donated to Ani mal Friends. The museum’s education department and Animal Friends will also offer workshops on art and responsible pet care for elementary and middle school students.

Great art and good deeds…a winning combination!
